Medal Atlantic Star 1939 - 1945

The miniature of the Atlantic Star is the reduced version of the original British campaign medal of the Second World War, awarded to service personnel who served between 1939 and 1945 in the dangerous waters of the Atlantic Ocean. This decoration was granted primarily to members of the Royal Navy, the Merchant Navy and the Air Force who took part in the struggle against German U-boats and surface vessels.

Like the full-size medal, the miniature is struck in bronze-coloured metal in the distinctive six-pointed star shape, bearing in the centre the cypher of King George VI. It is suspended from a narrow ribbon of blue, white and green, the colours symbolising respectively the sea, the waves and the sky.

Traditionally worn with evening dress or on occasions where the large model was not appropriate, this miniature remains today an authentic piece of Allied military history and a highly valued collector’s item for enthusiasts of WWII decorations.
