Deportees' Honour Cross 1914 - 1918

The Deportees’ Cross of Honour 1914–1918 is a Belgian civilian decoration established after the First World War to honour citizens deported or interned by the German occupier. The award was given to those who suffered repression, forced labour or imprisonment during the occupation of Belgium. It symbolises the suffering, courage and dignity of the deportees.

The medal is shaped as a Latin cross in bronze-coloured metal. At the centre of the obverse is the inscription “1914–1918”, surrounded by a laurel wreath, a symbol of honour and remembrance.

The large model of the Deportees’ Cross of Honour 1914–1918 is worn on a dark red moiré ribbon with diagonal black, yellow and red stripes, representing the Belgian flag and national unity.
