Grand Cordon Order of Leopold

The sash of the Grand Cordon in the Order of Leopold is an essential component of Belgium’s highest distinction. This broad shoulder ribbon is worn diagonally across the chest, with the lower end resting on the hip in a decorative bow from which the Commander’s badge is suspended.

The sash is made of purple moiré ribbon with the distinctive “moiré” wavy texture and has a width of 100 mm. The moiré weave gives the sash a luxurious and formal appearance.

At the lower end is an elegant bow, carefully shaped with pointed, notched ends, in accordance with the prescribed style for the Grand Cordon in the Order of Leopold. This version is traditionally worn at official ceremonies by the holder of the Grand Cordon in the civil division.
