Military Medal 1st class

The Military Medal First Class is an official Belgian decoration awarded in recognition of long and faithful service or special merit within the army. The large metal model is marked by solid, refined craftsmanship and strictly adheres to the official specifications.

The obverse of the medal depicts the Belgian lion in the centre, surrounded by the bilingual motto “L’UNION FAIT LA FORCE – EENDRACHT MAAKT MACHT.” The reverse bears the inscription “ARMÉE · MÉRITE · ANCIENNETÉ,” underlining the medal’s meaning as a recognition of merit and seniority in military service. The medal is surmounted by a royal crown connected to the ribbon by a suspension ring.

It is worn on a moiré ribbon in the national colours of Belgium: red, yellow, and black. For the First Class, the ribbon is fitted with a metallic inverted chevron, making the grade clearly identifiable.

This metal version represents a prestigious distinction that honours dedication and loyalty within the Belgian armed forces, and may also be preserved or displayed in a suitable presentation case.
