Medal Carnegie Hero Fund

The Carnegie Hero Fund Gold Medal (large model) is a civilian award granted to individuals who have displayed outstanding courage and self-sacrifice in saving human lives. It is part of the Carnegie Hero Fund, founded by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, and has been awarded in Belgium since 1911.

The medal is struck in gilt metal and features, on the obverse, the profile portrait of Andrew Carnegie, with his name inscribed in a circular legend.

The decoration is suspended from a red moiré ribbon with multiple white stripes and blue edging, symbolising courage, sacrifice, and humanitarian spirit.

The large model is the official version worn on the uniform at solemn civilian occasions and serves as a visible tribute to extraordinary acts of heroism.
