Medal Mérite Sportif 1939 - silver

The large model of the Silver Medal of Sporting Merit is struck in silvered bronze and depicts on the obverse two athletes with bare upper body shaking hands, with the word SPORT below.

The Silver Medal of Sporting Merit is one of the three grades of this rare Belgian sports award, instituted in 1939. It is awarded to athletes who have achieved remarkable performances or who have rendered long and distinguished service in the field of sport. The award is highly selective and limited in number, making the silver grade a prestigious distinction in its own right.

The large model is worn on a green moiré ribbon with a central silver stripe. Within the three existing grades – gold, silver, and bronze – this silver version represents the second level of merit.
