Medal Mérite Sportif 1939 - bronze

The large model of the Bronze Medal of Sporting Merit is struck in bronze and shows on its obverse two athletes with bare upper body shaking hands, with the word SPORT below.

The Bronze Medal of Sporting Merit is one of the three grades of this rare Belgian sports award, instituted in 1939. It was awarded to athletes or sports officials who had achieved outstanding performances or rendered long and valuable service in sport. The annual number of awards was very limited, giving the bronze grade considerable prestige.

The large model is worn on a green moiré ribbon with a central red stripe. Within the three grades – gold, silver, and bronze – the bronze version represents the third level of merit.
