Medal for Civil Resistance

The Civil Resistance Decoration is a Belgian award granted to civilians who took part in the resistance movements during the Second World War. The decoration symbolises courage, sacrifice and the contribution of the civilian population to the fight against the occupier.

The round medal is struck in bronze-coloured metal and depicts on the obverse the image of two resistance fighters, a man and a woman, shown in a determined stance. In their hands are broken chains, symbolising liberation and the fight against oppression.

The large model of the Civil Resistance Decoration is suspended from a green moiré ribbon with two vertical red stripes and black borders. The green symbolises hope and renewal, the red sacrifice, and the black mourning.
