Description

The ribbon bar of the Africa Star is the rectangular representation of the ribbon belonging to the original British campaign medal of the Second World War. The award was granted to military personnel who served between 10 June 1940 and 12 May 1943 in combat operations across North Africa. It was awarded to members of the British Army, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force, who took part in the battles in Libya, Egypt and Tunisia against German and Italian forces.

The ribbon bar features the official moiré ribbon of red, yellow and dark blue, symbolising respectively the Army, the desert sun and the Navy. On some original medals, the ribbon could be fitted with a clasp (“8th Army” or “1st Army”) to denote specific participation.

The ribbon bar is worn on a metal holder (not included), attached to the uniform with pins and butterfly clasps. It served as a practical substitute for the full-size medal during daily or operational wear.

Today, this ribbon bar stands as an authentic and historic tribute to the Allied efforts in Africa and a valued collector’s item for enthusiasts of WWII decorations.
