Grand Cordon Order of Leopold Maritime

The breast star of the Grand Cordon in the Order of Leopold, maritime division, is crafted exclusively from solid fine silver (.999). It forms an essential part of the highest grade within this Belgian order of merit and is worn on the left chest, together with the broad sash from which the commander’s badge is suspended.

The uniform slides and rosettes of the maritime Grand Cordon in the Order of Leopold are identical to those of the civil Grand Cordon and can be ordered there as well.

The star measures 94 mm in diameter and displays a richly detailed eight-pointed ray pattern with a faceted surface, creating a striking play of light. At its center lies a black enamel medallion featuring the gilded Belgian lion in relief, surrounded by a dark red enamel ring bearing the national motto “L’UNION FAIT LA FORCE – EENDRACHT MAAKT MACHT” in both national languages, framed by profiled gilded edges and a fine pearl border.

What sets the maritime division apart are the crossed gilded anchors, visible behind the central medallion. These emphasize the maritime character of the distinction and make it clearly distinguishable from the civil division.
