Military Medal Courage and Devotion 1st class

The Military Medal for Courage and Devotion 1st Class (large model) is a Belgian military decoration, instituted to honour exceptional courage, sense of duty and dedication within the armed forces. The insignia consists of a gilt pattée cross with widened arms, resting on a background of radiating rays. At the centre is a round medallion showing the Belgian coat of arms with the Belgian lion in relief.

The cross is surmounted by a gilt royal crown, symbol of royal approval. The medal is suspended from a red moiré ribbon, bordered with the Belgian national colours black, yellow and red. Distinguishing the 1st Class is the inverted golden chevron on the ribbon.

The large model is worn on the uniform during official ceremonies and military parades.
