Officer Royal Order of the Lion

The officer’s cross of the Royal Order of the Lion is a gilt cross pattée with white enamel arms, edged in gold. At its center is a black lion on a golden field, encircled by a blue enamel band bearing the motto “Travail et Progrès” (Work and Progress). The black lion refers to Belgium’s national arms, highlighting the royal origin of the order.

The cross is surmounted by a gilded royal crown and is worn from a purple moiré ribbon with blue edging, distinguished by a rosette. The Officer’s grade is set apart from that of Knight by the gilt finish of the cross and the addition of the rosette.
