Knight Royal Order of the Lion

The knight’s cross of the Royal Order of the Lion is made in silvered metal, shaped as a cross pattée with white enamel arms and silver edging. At its center is a black lion on a golden field, surrounded by a blue enamel band inscribed with the motto “Travail et Progrès” (Work and Progress). The black lion refers to Belgium’s national arms, emphasizing the royal origin of the order.

The cross is surmounted by a silvered royal crown and is worn from a purple moiré ribbon with blue edging. The Knight’s grade is distinguished from that of Officer by its silvered execution and by the absence of a rosette on the ribbon.
