Commander Royal Order of the Lion

The commander’s cross of the Royal Order of the Lion is a gilt cross pattée with white enamel arms, edged in gold. At its center is a black lion on a golden field, surrounded by a blue enamel circlet inscribed with the motto “Travail et Progrès” (Work and Progress). The black lion refers to Belgium’s national arms, highlighting the royal origin of the order.

The decoration is surmounted by a gilded royal crown and is suspended from a purple moiré ribbon edged with blue. In the grade of Commander, it is worn around the neck.
