Medal of the Fiftieth Anniversary of Belgian Congo

The Medal of the 50th Anniversary of the Belgian Congo was instituted in 1958 to mark fifty years since the annexation of Congo by Belgium (1908–1958). It was awarded as a commemorative medal to individuals who had rendered noteworthy service in the colony.

The medal is struck in bronze-coloured metal with a rectangular base shape flanked by ears of wheat. At its centre is a five-pointed star bearing the Belgian coat of arms, the letters L B A, and the dates 1908–1958. The decoration is suspended from a multicoloured moiré ribbon with vertical stripes in blue, yellow, red and black, symbolising both national and colonial identity.
