At P. De Greef, we shape recognition every single day. Quite literally. So when we were asked to make the European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Awards 2025, we felt not only honoured but also deeply inspired.
Because these awards represent more than just a beautiful object. They stand for equality, inclusion, and the power of local governments that truly make a difference for their citizens. We wanted to make that tangible – in every detail of the design.
An award with a message
The European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Awards are presented annually to cities, municipalities, and regions in the EU that actively promote an inclusive society. This includes policies on gender equality, accessibility, LGBTQI+ rights, ethnic diversity, and the fight against discrimination.
For us, this meant creating a physical object that was not only aesthetically strong, but also meaningful in content.
A timeless and powerful award
We translated these values into a timeless, powerful design:
- Materials: Sustainable and European-made – reflecting the social relevance of the award.
- Design: An open, layered structure symbolising cooperation between people and governments.
- Details: Each award is hand-finished and engraved with the name of the winning city or region.
The awards were presented on 16 May in Brussels, in the presence of EU Commissioner Helena Dalli and representatives of the winning cities. Barcelona, Linz am Rhein, Ghent, and Emilia-Romagna are just a few of the proud winners now giving our award a permanent place in their town or city hall.
Proud of meaningful craftsmanship
For our team, this was a unique opportunity to contribute our craft to a project with genuine social value. Because while the award is tangible – made of metal, wood, or acrylic – it stands for something much greater: the reward for vision, dedication, and humanity.
We are therefore especially proud that our creations can embody these values on a European stage.
