Sustainable medals for Lignaverda

Lignaverda®, part of the Belgian non-profit organisation Ondernemers Zonder Grenzen, strives for a world in which people affected by desertification can live in a sustainable balance between economy, ecology and sociology. This is achieved through reforestation initiatives in African semi-arid regions. The Sahara in the north and the Kalahari in the south of Africa are deserts with arid landscapes and scarce rainfall, which makes these areas inhospitable to plant and animal life. Millions of Africans live in the transition zones, such as the Sahel, which are very sensitive to degradation due to scarce vegetation and harsh conditions. Land degradation in Africa, caused by natural causes, leads to food insecurity, loss of biodiversity and increased vulnerability to climate change.

Lignaverda® has taken the initiative to show its appreciation to important sponsors and supporting parties in Belgium and abroad by means of a beautiful medal, designed by the artist François Blommaerts (1955) from Hove. His creation shows a beautifully sculpted, resilient tree in the African plain, braving the elements. We have made the medal in red copper, with a dark patina and an accentuated tree in a bright metallic colour; this finish is very characteristic and is done manually. P. De Greef is particularly pleased to have been able to contribute to the praiseworthy initiative of the vzw Ondernemers Zonder Grenzen with our product.
