With pride, we present Fonson Coins – a new brand rooted in nearly 200 years of Belgian craftsmanship. What began in 1827 as a workshop for military ornaments in Brussels evolved under the name Fonson Frères into an established name in the world of medals and decorations. Today, that heritage enters a new chapter: Fonson Coins – a brand that combines artistic, high-quality collectible coins with historical depth and craftsmanship.
A brand with history
Fonson is no coincidence. The name carries the weight of a long-standing tradition – one we aim to shape into a new future with respect and vision. In 2021, the historic brand came under the ownership of P. De Greef Medals, which had previously integrated other iconic Belgian ateliers. In 2024, Fonson Coins was launched as an independent brand for artistic coins, with a focus on quality, creativity, and exclusivity.
Every coin issued by Fonson Coins results from the collaboration of top designers, master engravers, and modern production techniques – without losing the essence of craftsmanship. Using (ultra) high-relief techniques, refined finishes, and limited editions, we do not offer mass production but collectibles that speak.
The collections
Under Fonson Coins, we launch various thematic series, each highlighting a different aspect of art, history, or nature. For example:
- World’s Famous Bridges: A tribute to the world’s architectural icons, such as the impressive Tower Bridge in London – immortalized on a 5-ounce coin in pure silver.
- Patterns of Nature: Coins that capture the wonders of nature through artistic design. The “Flamingos” coin (2024) stands out with its double-convex shape, antique finish, and delicate color accents – in a limited edition of 500 pieces.
- The Roman Empire: A series depicting key moments and battles from the Roman Empire in powerful relief. Think of the recent “Battle of Zama” coin, designed by master engraver Joaquin Jimenez
- Animal Tracks: A playful yet poetic series featuring the footprints of iconic animals – such as the “Giant Panda” coin, issued in 2025.
